Philadelphia Biking Groups
There are a ton of riders to connect with on Temple's campus, but if you're looking to get involved with cycling on a citywide level, here are a few local groups to take a look at.
Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCGP)
The BCGP is a bicycle organization that works to promote bicycling in the Philadelphia region “as a healthy, low-cost, and environmentally-friendly form of transportation and recreation.” If you’re looking to volunteer with an organization committed to making the city better for biking, this is it.
Southeastern Pennsylvania Trail Riders (SEPTR)
SEPTR is the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) chapter in Southeastern PA. They organize mountain biking rides and events, promote responsible mountain biking, and work to maintain local mountain bike trails.
Neighborhood Bike Works (NBW)
NBW is an organization that works to create educational, recreational, and career-building opportunities through bicycling for urban youth in underserved neighborhoods of greater Philadelphia. NBW also offers adult bicycle repair classes, and maintains several repair co-ops throughout the city. See their locations and schedules.
Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities (MOTU)
MOTU is the City Hall office responsible for overseeing investments and plans in Philadelphia, and how they affect Philadelphia’s infrastructure and the people who use it. MOTU is responsible for determining whether or not future investments fit with the vision of a sustainable Philadelphia with great mobility for citizens using all sorts of transportation. Their blog is worth taking a look at for the wealth of data and charts.
